REBECCA L. HARGROVE is The Artists Forum 2024 Artist of the Year. She was most recently seen on FBI: Most Wanted (CBS) Season 6 Episode 6, “Pageantry,” as Lily Crane, and on Law & Order (NBC) Season 24 Episode 9, “Enemy of the State,” as Attorney Shelly Hakins. She recently starred in The Fire This Time Festival Season 16, directed by Kimille Howard at The Wild Project NYC, and begins her sixth season with the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players, starring as Yum-Yum in The Mikado, and previously as Angelina in Trial by Jury. Last year, she headlined The Colour of Music Festival in Charleston, NC with a solo recital entitled “The Music of The Harlem Renaissance” featuring pianist Kyle Walker and a presentation of The Grey Land a one-woman opera by Joseph C. Phillips, which is available on all streaming platforms.

Other notable productions include Evita and Cabin in the Sky (City Center Encores!), The Garden of the Finzi-Contini (New York City Opera), Our Town (Baltimore Center Stage), B.R.O.K.E.N Code B.I.R.D Switching (Berkshire Theater Group),  In the Parlour (National Black Theater), and Aqcuanetta (Bard Summerscape).

 

Ms. Hargrove’s ravishing Acquanetta (“I am your beautiful monster,” she sings) is both mistress and captive of the close-ups in which she is usually framed.

Since the 2019-2020 season, Rebecca has been a member of The Metropolitan Opera Extra-Chorus in their productions of Die Meistersinger (Wagner), Fire Shut Up in My Bones (Blanchard), and Porgy & Bess (Gershwin). She is a two-time Grammy Award Winner for ‘Best Opera Album’ for Porgy & Bess (2020) and Fire Shut Up in My Bones (2022). She can be heard on Terence Blanchard’s film score soundtrack for The Woman King as part of the Vox Noire ensemble. In concert, Rebecca has performed at Carnegie Hall, The John F. Kennedy Center, David Geffen Hall, Disney Concert Hall, Brooklyn Academy of Music, and 54 Below. 

Her Television and Film credits include Dear Edward (Apple TV), For Life (ABC), The Wilson View (Pilot), House of Cards (Netflix), Random Acts of Flyness (HBO), Yes, Auntie! (Amazon Prime), and Single Record (Revry).

Rebecca along with her friend Kedren Spencer, has formed KSRH Productions LLC. Their first project “Last Call” the short film has been recognized with the Audience Choice Award at the New Faces New Voices Film Festival; Best Original Score, Best Actress, and Audience Choice Award at The Artists Forum Festival of the Moving Image; and Best Romantic Comedy at the Atlanta Women in Comedy Film Festival. KSRH’s mission is to produce TV/Film content exhibiting the non-monolithic Black Experience through a lens of love, joy, and positivity.
